Recommendations

Voyado Elevate supports a number of different recommendation types for use in different contexts to encourage a more natural shopping behavior and enable browsing by associations for visitors. For example, on product pages there are often areas that show different recommendations related to the product in question, and on a shopping cart page there may be recommendations of products related to the ones that currently sit in the visitor's cart.

Using deep product data understanding and behavioral data, Voyado Elevate can capture the visitor intent and show relevant products for each recommendation type on different page types.

Recommendation types

Each of the recommendation types have their intended usage area, but can still be combined in any way possible, such as one Alternatives recommendation and one Upsell recommendation on a product page. To ensure efficient use of retail space, deduplication of products is automatic.

Top products

The "Top products" algorithm is a generic recommendation type that works on any area. It can be used as a generic toplist or be narrowed down to specific contexts using product rules. It uses the following to showcase the most relevant products:

  • Aggregated data from all visitor interactions and purchases
  • Product event data, such as stock levels
  • Product information, such as newness
  • A selected exposure strategy

This recommendation type is not only versatile and reactive, but also the default recommendation type. However, it should only be used when there is no other better suited recommendation type.

Personal

The "Personal" recommendation generates personal recommendations for the current visitor by analyzing recent views, interactions and purchases. This algorithm strives to capture the visitor's current interest and predict the next purchase. This recommendation type can be used on any area, which means it can replace the "Top products" recommendation when a personalized list is preferred over context-free top sellers.

Recently viewed

The "Recently viewed" recommendation offers a personalized touch by displaying products that the visitor has recently browsed or interacted with on the website. Positioned strategically, the Recently viewed recommendation serves as a convenient reminder of products that the visitor has explored, making it easy for them to revisit and make informed decisions. It is available both on empty input to the autocomplete dropdown and as a regular recommendation list algorithm. Displaying it in the autocomplete dropdown is a convenient way to have it always available without using retail space - if it is missing, it can be enabled in the Auto-complete & Search settings.

Alternatives

The "Alternatives" recommendation is used on the product page, showcasing products that are compelling alternatives to the currently viewed product. It identifies the most relevant products typically considered in the same context by examining user interactions, visual properties, product type, functionality, among other factors. We strongly recommend featuring this recommendation type on the product page to encourage browsing and reduce the bounce rate for visitors that come from external search engines or comparison sites.

Upsell

The "Upsell" recommendation, another product page feature, showcases products that visitors often buy or consider alongside the product currently in view. This is determined by analyzing behavioral data and a deep understanding of data within a similar context.

Style with

The "Style with" recommendation is a product page recommendation that showcases products manually selected by a merchandiser to complement the product in view. The selected products are provided through the feed, however we automatically exclude products without a valid image or those out of stock.

More from series

The "More from Series" recommendation, another product page feature, displays products belonging to the same series as the product currently being viewed. More relevant products will be ranked higher.

Add to cart recs

The "Add to cart recs" recommendation showcases products that visitors often buy alongside a product that was just added to the cart. While similar to the Upsell recommendation, it is optimized to be used in popups or drawers displayed after the visitor has added an item to the cart.

Cart

The "Cart" recommendation is designed to be used on the cart page, a page that displays the content of the shopping cart. The Cart recommendation aims to find other related products that are likely to be bought based on the content of the cart.

Favorites

Everyone has their own personal favorites, and many retailers allow visitors to select and revisit them later. The "Favorites" recommendation shows recommendations based on these favorites, offering retailers an opportunity to inspire visitors browsing their favorites page.

Newest products

The "Newest Products" recommendation highlights products according to their novelty, determined by their release date or time of addition. It's an ideal feature for a landing page dedicated to new arrivals or the start page. The number of days considered "new" can be customized in the Experience app.
